Day 1: Marangu Gate (1,860m) to Mandara Hut (2,700m)

– Begin your trek at Marangu Gate, where you’ll register with the park authorities and meet your guide and porters.
– Hike through the dense rainforest of Kilimanjaro, enjoying the lush vegetation and wildlife along the way.
– Arrive at Mandara Hut, your first overnight stop. Relax, enjoy dinner, and acclimatize to the altitude.

Day 2: Mandara Hut (2,700m) to Horombo Hut (3,720m)

– After breakfast, continue your trek through the rainforest, gradually ascending towards the heath and moorland zone.
– Pass through the Maundi Crater, where you can enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
– Arrive at Horombo Hut, your accommodation for the night. Spend the afternoon resting, hydrating, and acclimatizing to the higher altitude.

Day 3: Acclimatization Day at Horombo Hut (3,720m)

– This day is dedicated to acclimatization to reduce the risk of altitude sickness.
– You have the option to take a short hike to Zebra Rocks or explore the area around Horombo Hut.
– Rest, hydrate, and enjoy the stunning views of Kilimanjaro and the surrounding landscape.

Day 4: Horombo Hut (3,720m) to Kibo Hut (4,703m)

– Leave Horombo Hut and continue your trek towards Kibo Hut, the final base camp before the summit.
– Ascend through the alpine desert, passing by the iconic landscape of Kilimanjaro’s lunar-like terrain.
– Arrive at Kibo Hut in the afternoon. Rest, hydrate, and prepare for your summit attempt.
– Have an early dinner and try to get some rest before your midnight start for the summit.

Day 5: Summit Day – Kibo Hut (4,703m) to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) and descent to Horombo Hut (3,720m)

– Wake up around midnight for a light breakfast and start your summit attempt under the cover of darkness.
– Trek slowly and steadily, following the zigzagging path up the rocky slopes of Gilman’s Point (5,681m).
– Continue along the crater rim to Stella Point (5,756m) before reaching the highest point in Africa, Uhuru Peak (5,895m).
– Celebrate your achievement at the summit, then begin your descent back to Kibo Hut.
– Rest briefly at Kibo Hut before continuing down to Horombo Hut for your final overnight on the mountain.

Day 6: Descent to Marangu Gate (1,860m) and Departure

– After breakfast, descend through the rainforest to Marangu Gate, where you’ll sign out with the park authorities.
– Receive your summit certificates and bid farewell to your guides and porters.
– Transfer back to your accommodation in Marangu for a well-deserved rest and celebration.

This itinerary follows the standard 5-day Marangu Route trek, with an extra day for acclimatization at Horombo Hut.
