Day 1: Arrival in Tanzania

– Arrive in Tanzania, typically at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), and transfer to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha.
– Meet with your tour operator for a briefing and equipment check.
– Rest and prepare for the trek ahead.

Day 2: Londorossi Gate (2,100m) to Big Tree Camp (2,780m)

– Drive from Moshi/Arusha to Londorossi Gate (approximately 2-3 hours).
– Complete park formalities at the gate and begin the trek through lush rainforest.
– Trek to Big Tree Camp (Mti Mkubwa Camp) for overnight camping.

Day 3: Big Tree Camp (2,780m) to Shira 1 Camp (3,505m)

– Continue trekking through the rainforest, gradually ascending.
– Reach the heath and moorland zone as you approach Shira Plateau.
– Camp at Shira 1 Camp for the night.

Day 4: Shira 1 Camp (3,505m) to Shira 2 Camp (3,840m)

– Ascend further through the Shira Plateau, enjoying panoramic views of the mountain.
– Trek to Shira 2 Camp, located near a stream and surrounded by volcanic rock formations.
– Acclimatization hike in the afternoon.

Day 5: Shira 2 Camp (3,840m) to Barranco Camp (3,950m) via Lava Tower (4,630m)

– Ascend to Lava Tower for acclimatization, reaching a high point of 4,630 meters.
– Descend to Barranco Camp via the scenic Barranco Valley, known for its giant Senecio trees.
– Overnight at Barranco Camp, situated beneath the imposing Barranco Wall.

Day 6: Barranco Camp (3,950m) to Karanga Camp (3,995m)

– Tackle the Barranco Wall, a challenging but exhilarating climb.
– Traverse the Karanga Valley to Karanga Camp, offering stunning views of the southern glaciers.
– Rest and prepare for the summit push.

Day 7: Karanga Camp (3,995m) to Barafu Camp (4,673m)

– Ascend to Barafu Camp, the high camp situated at the base of the summit route.
– Rest and hydrate in preparation for the summit bid.
– Early dinner and bedtime to allow for adequate rest before the summit attempt.

Day 8: Barafu Camp (4,673m) to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) to Mweka Camp (3,100m)

– Begin the summit ascent around midnight, ascending under the starry sky.
– Reach Stella Point (5,756 meters) at dawn and continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa.
– Descend via the Mweka Route, passing Barafu Camp and continuing to Mweka Camp for overnight.

Day 9: Mweka Camp (3,100m) to Mweka Gate (1,640m)

– Descend through the lush rainforest, enjoying the sights and sounds of the lower slopes.
– Arrive at Mweka Gate, where you’ll receive summit certificates and say goodbye to your mountain crew.
– Transfer back to your hotel in Moshi/Arusha for a well-deserved celebration and rest.
